Mark LaPointe has over 40 years of experience as a public health advisor in both domestic and international settings. Beginning as a public health advisor in the global effort that erradicated small pox, he managed health programs and served as a liaison to international non-governmental agencies and foreign health offices. He worked both in CDC headquarters in Atlanta and in state health offices, and in public health agencies around the world. He has extensive experience working in Africa, the Caribbean, and Asia. He currently serves on the board of Catholic Charities of Maine.
He joined the Centers for Disease Control in 1966, after spending two years as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Guinea and one year as a high school teacher in rural Maine. Since retiring from CDC in 1999, he has shared his expertise as a consultant, including an evaluation of coverage rates and use of mosquito nets in Togo, West Africa.
Mark LaPointe has a Masters in Public Administration from the University of Maine and a bachelors degree from Assumption College. After 40 years away, he and his wife have returned to their village of Portland, Maine.
