AREAS OF EXPERTISE

School Leadership Development

•  Directed Stanford’s School Leadership Study.  Study identified the components of an effective leadership development program which are now widely accepted in the field.

• Evaluated leadership development programs in the Jefferson County (KY) Public Schools, with led to specific improvements to the districts professional development offered to principals and aspiring principals.

• Examined support and supervision of principals in five urban school district to guide the Boston Public Schools' review of of principal autonomy. 

• Facilitated a one-day workshop for the University of Mississippi’s Department of Education Administration, to discuss best practices in principal preparation to inform their program re-design.

• Collected data to inform district strategic planning in Lafayette, CA and Missoula, MT.

• Investigated how states in the northeast support school and district teams in analyzing data and evidence to support student achievement and improve school functioning.

College Readiness & Workforce Development  

• Co-author of book highlighting best-practices in lifelong learning.
• Diagnostic assessment of School-to-Work programs helped North Dakota write a successful proposal resulting in a $1.8 million federal grant.
• Reviewed the funding and budgets of Massachusetts’ Community Colleges.  Presented report with recommendations to legislative leaders and cabinet officials.
• Evaluated a network of six Maine high schools receiving support from the Southern Maine Partnership as they implemented new high school reform standards. 
• Evaluated the Business Alliance for Advanced Technological Education. These business-school partnerships prepared girls and minority youth for careers in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).
• Conducted a survey on Secondary Vocational Education in Georgia, commissioned by the state Superintendent of Instruction.

Early Childhood Programs

• Participated in the national evaluation of pilot program expanding Head Start services to help families become self sufficient. 
• Assessed the impact of a full-day kindergarten pilot program in Maine School Administrative District 75. 
• Organized a workshop for the Maine's 124th Legislature to highlight the importance of investing in programs for children from birth to age five.

Other Programs to Support Children & Youth

• Evaluated community-school partnerships to improve resiliency in youth.
• Developed and implemented mentoring program at the Community Counseling Center (Portland, ME), to support at-risk youth.
• Evaluated a school-based alcohol and other drug prevention program to help children of the Red Cliff Band of the Chippewa Nation avoid drug use (Bayfield, WI).
• Assessed federally-funded programs serving homeless students, including visits to all seven of the remaining schools specially created to serve homeless students.
• Evaluated State of Louisiana welfare programs, including local non-profits that received grants to provide after-school programs and teen pregnancy prevention programs.
• Assessed the effectiveness of supports for foster parents provided by the office of social services in Onondaga County (NY).
