When Dr. LaPointe visited the Jefferson County Public Schools in 2008, she was surprised at how much the district's leadership program had changed since her Stanford team studied the program in 2005. Instead of 25 programs to support school leaders, the district had only four. The program director explained that reading the Stanford case study helped them realize that a laundry-list of programs was not meeting their goal of preparing and supporting principals who are effective instructional leaders. As a result of Stanford's research, the district prioritized and expanded the four core programs and eliminated the others.
